Sylvia Bishop for Delta Council

Why I am running for Delta council.

Quality of Life

People I talk to express concerns about preserving our quality of life. They experience transportation challenges, worry about development issues and potential loss of farmland and wonder about how we can manage our waste management as the landfill continues to grow. They want their neighborhoods to be safe family places. They want assurances tax dollars are wisely spent and civic processes are transparent and fair.

Unique Characteristics

We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. And it is so diverse! We seem to have it all; the waters of Boundary Bay and the Fraser River; farmlands that cover 45% of our municipality; forests, and Burns Bog – one of very few domed peat bogs in the world. These need to be protected.

Thriving Community

Our Tilbury and Annacis Island industrial parks provide much needed jobs in Delta. They are places of commerce and industry to the area. Our new Boundary Bay airport is one of the top 5 busiest airports in Canada due to the number of flight schools located there.

Tsawwassen’s Sunday car lot, Ladner’s Farmer’s Market, the Tour de Delta, Reifel Bird Sanctuary, North Delta’s Watershed Park and Burns Bog bring thousands of visitors to the municipality. These locations, destinations and events are opportunities needing support so they can continue to thrive. And there are other possibilities. For example, the Heritage Hangar at Boundary Bay airport would be a wonderful location for a flight museum.

Lifestyle Choice

My friends and neighbours moved here because of what Delta has to offer. It’s a safe place to live and raise a family. It has great schools. The environment supports a healthy life style. A variety of activities are offered in the community. People want to be assured the qualities that attracted them here in the first place, remain in place and continue to improve.

That’s why I am running for Delta Council.
